The Case of the Curious Bride

Synopsis

Rhoda Lorton believed she was a widow when her unscrupulous husband, con man Greg Moxley, vanished after a plane crash, taking her inheritance with him. Years later, having rebuilt her life, she marries the wealthy Carl Montaine. Her new-found happiness is shattered, however, when Moxley resurfaces, very much alive, and intent on extorting the Montaine fortune. His reappearance forces Rhoda into a perilous corner: expose her bigamy and ruin her reputation, or face Moxley's relentless blackmail. Desperate, she turns to the brilliant defense attorney Perry Mason, whose investigation quickly uncovers a web of deception, past secrets, and a potential murder, placing Rhoda not just at the mercy of a blackmailer, but possibly on trial for her life. Mason must unravel Moxley's intricate scheme and find the true culprit before Rhoda's 'curious' marital history seals her fate.

Critical Reception

"This thrilling installment remains a quintessential example of Erle Stanley Gardner's masterful legal mysteries, solidifying Perry Mason's reputation as the ultimate defender of the falsely accused."
