Synopsis

Fleeing the burning city of Tai-tastigon, Jame and her companion Marc embark on a perilous journey through unforgiving mountain passes, desperately seeking her brother, Tori. As fragments of a dark, forgotten past – tied to the treacherous House of Gerridon and the betrayal of her people, the Kencyrath – begin to surface, Jame finds herself pursued by shapeshifters and judged by the enigmatic Arrin-ken, her own kin. Her path is fraught with bandits and unsettling echoes of a future threatened by the malevolent Perimal Darkling. Despite the looming personal disaster and the weight of her heritage, Jame's determination to find Tori and escape eternal darkness only intensifies. Meanwhile, Tori, the Highlord of the Kencyrath, precariously balances the desires of his unruly lords. When a grave threat forces him to rally his forces, he risks not only his precarious leadership but also his sanity, drawing dangerous attention and confronting nightmares that hint at a future he dreads, and the reappearance of a sister he both loves and fears. Both Jame and Tori, wild and unpredictable, must now face the profound consequences of their every action, a heavy burden neither is truly prepared to bear.
