Librarian-spy Irene Winter and her assistant Kai embark on what promises to be a relaxing break in Guernsey, on the trail of a rare book. However, their respite quickly turns perilous when Irene narrowly escapes an assassination attempt, Kai is poisoned, and their ally Vale is nearly killed. The danger follows them back to London, where targeted attacks continue against individuals linked to a critical Fae-dragon peace treaty. Irene recognizes the urgent need to uncover and thwart the conspirators before the treaty collapses and more lives are lost. As the stakes escalate, Irene, Kai, and Vale find themselves trapped underground within a clandestine archive. Here, they confront not only the immediate threat but also the re-emergence of a vengeful old enemy and the shocking revelation of a deep secret that threatens to unravel everything.
