Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Mae, feeling adrift in 1966 New York City, sees her world irrevocably altered when she accepts an unexpected job offer: a typist for the enigmatic artist Andy Warhol at his Factory. There, she is tasked with transcribing candid conversations and experiences of Warhol's famous and alluring circle, recorded on tape. Alongside fellow typist Shelley, Mae is thrust into the surreal and vibrant fringes of the countercultural movement. They attend wild parties, explore their blossoming womanhood and sexuality, and grapple with the intoxicating allure of this new, unconventional life. As Mae grows increasingly obsessed with the tapes, her own reality begins to blur with the voyeuristic art being created. "Nothing Special" is a whip-smart coming-of-age story that masterfully navigates themes of friendship, independence, and the delicate line between artistic creation and exploitation, all set against the iconic and turbulent backdrop of 1960s New York.
