Synopsis

In the gripping third installment of Ray Celestin's City Blues Quartet, "The Mobster's Lament" plunges readers into the heart of a snow-choked New York City in 1947, a metropolis teetering on the precipice of mob power. Mob fixer Gabriel Leveson, desperate for a clean break, finds his escape plans thwarted when 'the boss of all bosses,' Frank Costello, tasks him with recovering stolen mob funds. As Gabriel navigates the city's treacherous underworld, he remains chillingly unaware that a relentless serial killer is closing in on him. Meanwhile, private investigator Ida Young and her former partner Michael Talbot race against time to exonerate Michael's son, Tom, who stands accused of the brutal murders of four people in a Harlem flophouse. With overwhelming evidence stacked against him, their only hope lies in unmasking the real killer. Adding another layer to this vibrant tapestry, jazz legend Louis Armstrong faces financial ruin, only for a mysterious promoter to offer him a lifeline. Celestin masterfully weaves these disparate narratives into a panoramic neo-noir thriller, offering a vivid, atmospheric portrait of a city both glamorous and deadly.
