Synopsis

As the life of young King Alroy Haldane wanes, his twin brother, Prince Javan, is summoned from the sanctuary of an abbey to ascend the throne of Gwynedd. This ascension is fraught with peril, as powerful noble factions and religious zealots plot to eradicate all Deryni – magic-users – from the kingdom. Unbeknownst to his enemies, Javan, though outwardly human, secretly possesses the very psychic powers he is sworn to protect. His Deryni abilities unveil the terrifying depth of the conspiracy, revealing their plans to enslave or destroy his people. Javan faces a formidable challenge: he must navigate a court riddled with betrayal, confront those who underestimate his resolve, and rally allies in a desperate struggle for survival. This middle chapter in 'The Heirs of Saint Camber' trilogy plunges Javan into a battle for his throne, his people, and his very life, requiring immense courage and cunning to prevail against a kingdom determined to erase all trace of magic.
