Synopsis

Philip Marlowe is drawn into a seemingly straightforward case: the formidable and imperious Mrs. Murdock hires him to recover a valuable, stolen coin, the Brasher Doubloon. What begins as a search for property soon spirals into a labyrinth of family secrets, blackmail, and murder. As Marlowe navigates the opulent yet morally decaying world of the Murdock estate, he encounters a gallery of suspicious characters: Mrs. Murdock's dissolute son, his alluring and dangerous wife, and a fragile, frightened secretary who seems to hold crucial pieces of the puzzle. With his characteristic sardonic wit and unwavering moral code, Marlowe delves deeper, peeling back layers of deceit and uncovering a past stained by violence. He finds himself not merely solving a crime, but exposing the depravity beneath the surface, ultimately bringing his own brand of grim justice to a complex web of human failings.
