Synopsis

Philip Marlowe, Raymond Chandler's iconic private detective, is drawn into a labyrinthine mystery when he's hired by the estranged wife of a wealthy businessman to find her missing husband, Derace Kingsley. Kingsley's wife, Crystal, has vanished, reportedly with another man. However, what begins as a routine missing person's case quickly unravels into a complex web of deceit, murder, and shifting identities. Marlowe's investigation leads him from the serene, isolated beauty of Little Fawn Lake in the mountains to the seedy underbelly and glittering facades of 1940s Los Angeles. As he navigates a world populated by manipulative women, corrupt officials, and ruthless killers, Marlowe uncovers multiple layers of betrayal and moral compromise. He must confront the brutal realities hidden beneath the surface of respectability, ultimately piecing together the grim truth behind the disappearance of 'the lady in the lake' and exposing the profound disillusionment pervading post-war American society.
