Synopsis

Chief Inspector Alan Banks, seeking solace and a slower pace, relocates from the urban sprawl of London to the seemingly tranquil village of Eastvale. However, the idyllic facade quickly shatters as a series of unsettling incidents plagues the community. Banks finds himself juggling the local nuisance of a voyeuristic Peeping Tom and a group of petty thieves, only for the stakes to dramatically escalate with the brutal murder of an elderly woman in her own home. As Banks delves deeper, the chilling possibility of a Jack the Ripper-esque killer stalking the quiet countryside emerges, casting a sinister shadow over Eastvale. Amidst the escalating tension, Banks navigates a burgeoning, complicated friendship with psychologist Jenny Fuller, which adds strain to his already fraught relationship with his wife, Sandra. The threats soon extend beyond the crimes, imperiling both Jenny and Banks's family, forcing the chief inspector to confront difficult truths and make heart-wrenching decisions as he races against time to unmask a terrifying killer in this gripping series debut.
