Synopsis

In the remote, ancient copse of Elmet, Daniel and Cathy are raised by their enigmatic and formidable father, John. Living off the land in a house built by his bare hands, their existence is a deliberate rebellion against modern society. Cathy, fierce and unyielding, mirrors their father's wild spirit, while gentle Daniel embodies the calm of their absent mother. John, a man of immense physical power and simmering rage, instills in his children a deep connection to their land, claiming it as their own, free from the world's conventions. However, their isolated idyll is shattered when local men, driven by greed and historical grievances, begin to circle, threatening their fragile peace. As tensions escalate, the raw, brutal violence within John resurfaces, forcing the family to confront the darkest aspects of their past and the lengths to which they will go to protect their home and each other. Mozley crafts a visceral tale of loyalty, revenge, and the dangerous allure of absolute freedom on society's fringes.
