Synopsis

Plunge into the sun-drenched, liquor-soaked chaos of late 1950s San Juan, Puerto Rico, with Paul Kemp, a disillusioned young American journalist fresh off a boat from New York. Hired by a dilapidated English-language newspaper, Kemp quickly finds himself ensnared in a world of casual corruption, illicit schemes, and rampant alcoholism, all under the shimmering veneer of a Caribbean boomtown. His precarious existence takes a dangerous turn when he becomes irresistibly drawn to Chenault, the mesmerizing and enigmatic girlfriend of his colleague, Sanderson. What begins as a volatile love triangle quickly spirals into a dark, intoxicating vortex of jealousy, treachery, and violent lust. As Kemp navigates the moral quicksand of his surroundings and his own escalating passions, he grapples with the alluring decay of the island and the burgeoning darkness within himself. "The Rum Diary" is a raucous, darkly comedic, and ultimately poignant exploration of a young man's descent into the hedonistic heart of a forgotten paradise.
