Synopsis

In the murky underbelly of Oslo's criminal world, Sonny Lofthus is an enigma. A model prisoner, he serves his time with a quiet dignity, revered by fellow inmates as a confessor and absolution-giver. His serene facade, however, belies a profound emptiness, born from the disgrace and suicide of his police officer father, who was branded a corrupt cop. Sonny's addiction to heroin is a self-imposed penance, a way to numb the pain and the false narrative he's lived by. But a single, shattering confession from another prisoner unravels everything: his father was innocent, framed by powerful, corrupt forces. This revelation shatters Sonny's world, transforming him from a passive saint into a man consumed by a thirst for retribution. Breaking out of prison, he embarks on a relentless, brutal quest to uncover the truth and dismantle the empire of lies that ruined his family, no matter the personal cost or the blood spilled.

Critical Reception

"Jo Nesbo's 'The Son' is hailed as a masterclass in dark Nordic Noir, a 'tense, violent, and hugely absorbing' exploration of corruption and vengeance that solidified his standing as a global crime fiction titan."

Adaptations
