Synopsis

In John Niven's audacious satire, 'The Second Coming,' God, after a millennia-long fishing trip (which was only a week in Heaven-time), returns to find Earth in a state of chaos, ravaged by war, famine, and rampant consumerism, with 'fucking Christians everywhere.' Disillusioned, the Almighty decides humanity needs a reset and sends his son, Jesus Christ, back to Earth. Reincarnated as a struggling musician named JC in modern-day New York City, the new Messiah endeavors to spread his simple, true commandment: 'Be Nice!' Faced with a world obsessed with fame and superficiality, JC's most promising path to salvation lies in competing on the mega-popular reality show 'American Pop Star.' However, the show's dark puppet master is none other than Steven Stelfox, a cutthroat record executive who embodies everything JC stands against, setting the stage for an epic, darkly comedic clash between divine purpose and commercial depravity. It's a biting commentary on faith, fame, and the state of contemporary society.
