Synopsis

Miranda Fitch, a former actress, is trapped in a waking nightmare, plagued by debilitating chronic back pain, a failed marriage, and a spiraling dependence on painkillers. Her last hope—her job as a college theater director—is also at risk. Determined to stage Shakespeare's 'All's Well That Ends Well,' a play that holds deep personal significance, she faces a mutinous cast intent on performing 'Macbeth' instead. As Miranda's life unravels and redemption slips through her fingers, she encounters three mysterious benefactors. These enigmatic figures possess an eerie knowledge of her past and offer a tantalizing promise: the show will go on, her rebellious students will face their comeuppance, and the invisible, doubted pain that has defined her existence will finally be acknowledged. Mona Awad's novel is a darkly humorous and subversive exploration of female suffering, artistic ambition, and the uncanny, offering a piercing indictment of society's collective refusal to witness and believe women's pain.

Critical Reception

"Acclaimed by literary giants like George Saunders and Margaret Atwood, "All's Well" is celebrated as a dazzling, wild, and profoundly original novel that masterfully blends dark humor, Shakespearean allusions, and a piercing exploration of female pain, marking Mona Awad as a vital and powerful storyteller."
