Synopsis

On a treacherous snowy evening, Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope finds herself lost and disoriented, missing a turn on a familiar road. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she stumbles upon an abandoned car with its door ajar, and discovers a toddler left alone in the backseat. Taking the child, Vera soon arrives at Brockburn, a grand but decaying ancestral home deeply entwined with her own family history, as it was her father, Hector's, childhood residence. Despite a lively Christmas party in full swing within, a shocking discovery awaits outside: a woman lies dead in the snow. As a relentless blizzard isolates Brockburn and its guests from the outside world, Vera must unravel the truth behind the murder. The investigation forces her to confront not only the secrets held by the present occupants but also the complicated, long-buried past of her own family, as Brockburn slowly reveals its darkest secrets under the watchful eye of the seasoned detective.
