Synopsis

In 2011, Samuel Andresen-Anderson, a jaded English professor, finds his stagnant life upended when his estranged mother, Faye, reappears on the nightly news, accused of an absurd but politically charged crime. Samuel hasn't seen Faye in decades, not since she abruptly abandoned him as a boy. The media paints her as a radical hippie with a scandalous past, a stark contrast to the quiet, ordinary woman he remembers. Driven by a need to reconcile these conflicting images and save his mother from serious charges, Samuel embarks on a profound journey of discovery. His investigation into Faye's history takes him from the suburban Midwest to the tumultuous 1968 Chicago riots and back to the ancient origins of the mysterious 'Nix' in Norway. As Samuel unearths long-buried family secrets and confronts his mother's complex past, he also grapples with his own lost love and forgotten dreams, forcing him to re-evaluate everything he thought he knew about family, identity, and the enduring resilience of love across generations.
