Synopsis

In the labyrinthine world of Regency London, a chilling wave of brutality grips the city as eight prostitutes are found brutally murdered, their deaths casting a dark shadow over the glittering façade of aristocratic society. Hero Jarvis, the fiercely independent and reform-minded daughter of the Prince Regent's cousin, finds herself inextricably drawn into the horrific case. Recognizing the inadequacy of official investigations, she enlists the aid of Sebastian St. Cyr, a nobleman haunted by his own past and renowned for his keen intellect and unconventional methods. Their joint inquiry pulls them from the squalid, gas-lit alleys of London's notorious East End, where the victims lived and died, to the opulent, tightly-guarded drawing-rooms and Mayfair mansions of the city's most powerful families. As they peel back layers of deception and privilege, Hero and Sebastian uncover a sinister plot far grander and more terrifying than mere individual acts of violence. They must race against time to unmask a killer whose ominous machinations threaten to expose corruption at the highest echelons of power and shake the very foundations of the British nation to its core.
