Synopsis

Set in a melancholic, post-Civil War Barcelona in 1945, "The Shadow of the Wind" begins with young Daniel Sempere, the son of an antiquarian bookseller, being introduced by his father to the secret 'Cemetery of Forgotten Books'. There, he selects a mysterious novel by Julián Carax bearing the same title as the book itself. Enchanted by the story, Daniel embarks on a quest to find other works by Carax, only to discover that someone is systematically destroying every copy of the author's books. Daniel may hold the last existing copy. His seemingly innocent search soon pulls him into a labyrinthine narrative of murder, madness, and doomed love, unraveling the dark secrets of Carax's life and the turbulent history of Barcelona. As Daniel delves deeper, the lines between his life and Carax's tragic past begin to blur, threatening to consume him in a tale of passion, betrayal, and enduring literary magic.
