Synopsis

Wizard Harry Dresden, already estranged from the White Council of Wizards, finds himself reluctantly drafted as a Warden amidst a devastating war with the vampires. Tasked with investigating unsettling rumors of black magic stirring in the Windy City, Harry's new responsibilities quickly escalate. Adding to his woes, Molly Carpenter, the now-grown, tattooed, and pierced daughter of his old friend Michael, arrives in Chicago embroiled in trouble. Her boyfriend is the prime suspect in a horrific supernatural assault, hinting at malevolent entities that feed on fear. As Harry navigates his new role, battles dark forces, and tries to keep Molly out of further danger, he must confront his past, challenge the rigid authority of the Council, and grapple with the ever-present threat of a new, insidious form of magic. With his faithful dog, Mouse, and the wise-cracking skull, Bob, Harry delves into a chilling mystery that blurs the lines between fear, magic, and profound guilt, forcing him to make impossible choices to protect those he cares about most.
