Synopsis

A year ago, Cal Thompson was an ordinary college freshman, more interested in socializing than academics. His life took an irreversible turn after a fateful encounter with a mysterious woman named Morgan. Unbeknownst to him, Cal became an asymptomatic carrier of a horrifying parasitic infection, which, in a cruel twist of fate, he has since unknowingly passed on to every girlfriend he's had. These infected women rapidly transform into ravenous creatures Cal calls 'Peeps'—what the rest of the world knows as vampires. Now, burdened with a gruesome responsibility, Cal must hunt down these newly turned ghouls before they can spread the contagion further, risking countless lives. Westerfeld masterfully reinvents the vampire mythos through a biological lens, blending sharp wit, dark humor, and genuine horror into a thrilling and utterly original narrative that challenges conventional genre tropes.

Critical Reception

"Scott Westerfeld's 'Peeps' is lauded for its ingenious and biologically-driven reinvention of the vampire myth, securing its place as a unique and influential entry in modern young adult horror."
