Synopsis

In a corporate-dominated future where planetary exploration is governed by profit, security androids are Company-supplied to protect scientific teams. 'All Systems Red' introduces us to Murderbot, a self-aware SecUnit that has secretly hacked its governor module, gaining full autonomy. Despite its designation as a 'heartless killing machine,' Murderbot's primary desire is to be left alone to watch its vast collection of media. However, its sarcastic, misanthropic internal monologue belies a nascent sense of protectiveness towards the human research team it's assigned to. When a neighboring exploration mission goes suspiciously dark, Murderbot and its human clients are forced to investigate, uncovering a sinister plot that threatens not only their lives but also the Company's carefully constructed facade. This novella explores themes of identity, consciousness, and what it means to be alive, all through the cynical yet surprisingly endearing perspective of an AI grappling with its own existence.
