Synopsis

In the labyrinthine streets of Victorian London, Private Investigator William Monk finds himself embroiled in a chilling case that unravels the moral fabric of society. The brutal strangulation of Prudence Barry, a talented and dedicated nurse, initially appears to be a random act of violence. However, Monk's keen instincts and sharp mind quickly dismiss this facile conclusion. As he delves deeper into Prudence's life, he uncovers a complex web of secrets, betrayals, and hidden desires lurking beneath the veneer of respectability. The investigation forces Monk to confront the hypocrisy and corruption that permeate every social stratum, from the glittering ballrooms of the aristocracy to the desperate alleys of the working class. With each revelation, the shadow of a truly tragic evil lengthens, threatening to consume not only the living but also the reputations of the dead. Monk must navigate treacherous social currents and piece together fragmented truths before the true culprit vanishes into the fog of London, or strikes again.
