Synopsis

In Robert Crais's gripping novel 'Chasing Darkness,' private investigator Elvis Cole is thrown into a moral and professional crisis when a woman he helped free from prison, after her conviction for murdering her family, suddenly confesses to the crime she was initially exonerated for. New DNA evidence had seemingly proven her innocence, leading Cole to tirelessly champion her release. Now, her re-confession leaves Cole haunted by the chilling thought that he may have inadvertently unleashed a dangerous killer back into society, and that the real perpetrator might still be at large, potentially targeting the woman herself. Partnering with his silent, lethal friend Joe Pike, Cole embarks on a relentless quest to unearth the truth behind the original murders and the perplexing new confession. Their investigation drags them through the dark corners of Los Angeles, exposing a complex web of buried secrets, manipulation, and ruthless individuals. As they peel back layers of deceit, Cole and Pike must confront their deepest fears and fight to ensure that true justice, however elusive, is finally served.
