Synopsis

In the twelfth century, amidst the volatile political landscape of England, Brother Cadfael, the herbalist monk of Shrewsbury Abbey, finds his quiet life plunged into chaos. A young minstrel, the charismatic Liliwin, bursts into the abbey seeking sanctuary, accused of a brutal assault and murder. An enraged mob, convinced of his guilt, clamors outside the abbey walls, demanding justice. With the shadow of a hanging loom threatening Liliwin's life, Cadfael, with his sharp wit and worldly experience as a former crusader, is unconvinced by the simple accusation. He delves into a complex web of envy, greed, and hidden passions, peeling back layers of deceit to uncover the truth. As Cadfael navigates the prejudices of the townspeople and the rigidity of monastic law, he must race against time to expose the real culprit and save an innocent man, all while upholding the sacred tradition of sanctuary.
