Synopsis

Night of the Fox plunges readers into the treacherous heart of World War II with a mission of unparalleled urgency. Following the acclaimed success of "The Eagle Has Landed," Jack Higgins once again masterfully crafts a high-stakes espionage thriller. The plot centers on a desperate Allied effort to extract Colonel Hugh Kelso, a critically injured American officer, from German-occupied Jersey. Kelso is no ordinary captive; he holds the precise details concerning the time and location of the impending D-Day invasion, knowledge that, if revealed, could catastrophically alter the course of the war. To achieve this impossible rescue, the Allies deploy the cunning and ruthless Irish-American operative, Harry Martineau, codenamed 'The Fox'. He must infiltrate enemy lines, navigating a labyrinth of Nazi intelligence and double-crosses, all while maintaining the utmost secrecy. His mission is complicated by the presence of Sarah Drayton, a local resistance fighter with her own secrets and motives. As the clock ticks relentlessly towards D-Day, Martineau must outwit the Gestapo's most relentless pursuers in a pulse-pounding race against time, where one wrong move could spell disaster for millions of Allied soldiers and the fate of the free world.
