Silver Nitrate

Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1990s Mexico City, "Silver Nitrate" introduces Montserrat, a talented but overlooked sound editor, and her charismatic yet fading best friend, Tristán, a soap opera star she secretly adores. Their lives take an uncanny turn when Tristán befriends their new neighbor, Abel Urueta, a reclusive and legendary cult horror director. Urueta spins a fantastic tale of a lost film, infused with potent Nazi occult magic via highly volatile silver nitrate stock, which he claims cursed his career when left unfinished. Now, Urueta enlists Montserrat and Tristán to help him complete the missing scene, believing it will lift the decades-old hex. As they delve deeper into the film's sinister history, a palpable dark presence begins to stalk Montserrat, while Tristán is haunted by the ghost of his ex-girlfriend. Together, they must unravel the chilling mystery of the occultist and the film, discovering that the line between cinematic illusion and terrifying reality is dangerously thin, and that sorcery is far more than just movie magic.
