Synopsis

Matt Fuller, a disillusioned grad-school dropout working as a research assistant at MIT, stumbles upon an incredible discovery. While attempting to measure quantum relationships, his experimental calibrator vanishes and reappears a second later, a phenomenon he soon learns he can control and extend. Through persistent tinkering, Matt realizes he has inadvertently created a time machine. With a dead-end job and a recent heartbreak, he has little to lose, so he decides to test his invention by sending objects, including a pet turtle, into the future. Emboldened by their safe return, Matt takes the plunge himself, borrowing an old car for his maiden voyage into the near future. However, his initial jump lands him in a perilous situation: arrested for the murder of the car's original owner, who apparently died of shock upon witnessing Matt's disappearance. To escape this immediate predicament and clear his name, Matt is forced to embark on an unpredictable, desperate journey through time, perpetually searching for a safe haven that may not exist in any era.
