Synopsis

Stranded on the perilous, highly elliptical planet of Abyormen, astronaut Nils Kruger faces a desperate struggle for survival. This world experiences extreme thermal cycles, oscillating between scorching heat and cryogenic cold, making sustained life a miracle. When Nils encounters an indigenous, non-humanoid alien, the initial relief of companionship quickly gives way to profound challenges. The two disparate beings, one a human from Earth and the other a native of Abyormen, must overcome vast biological, psychological, and linguistic barriers. As they cautiously forge an alliance, driven by mutual necessity in the face of a hostile environment, Nils makes a stunning and unsettling discovery: the alien, through its unique biological adaptations and intellectual processes shaped by Abyormen's extreme conditions, is far more intelligent than he first assumed. To the alien, Nils himself is the exotic, less advanced 'alien,' flipping the traditional first contact narrative and challenging human-centric perspectives on intelligence and survival.
