Synopsis

Young Horty Bleekman, a sensitive and outcast boy, flees a childhood marred by neglect and misunderstanding, finding an unlikely sanctuary amidst the dazzling, unsettling world of a traveling carnival. His only companion is a cherished, jeweled jack-in-the-box, whose hypnotic eyes seem to hold a secret of their own. Within the carnival's vibrant chaos, Horty encounters a peculiar family of "freaks" – individuals who, like him, possess an uncanny connection to strange, living jewels. These benevolent, often enigmatic, beings recognize a shared, profound difference within Horty and offer him protection, hinting at a hidden legacy and a true identity far grander and stranger than he could ever imagine. As Horty navigates this new reality, he begins to unravel the terrifying truth of his existence and the cosmic conflict that inextricably links him to the "jewel people" and their ancient, alien heritage, forcing him to confront not only his past but the destiny of an entire species.
