In a distant future, humanity has transcended its biological origins, with most consciousnesses residing as 'citizens' within vast digital polises. Others, known as 'gleisners,' inhabit disposable robotic bodies, maintaining a connection to the physical universe, while a few 'fleshers' remain on Earth, having undergone various biological transformations. This post-human complacency is shattered when a catastrophic event devastates the flesher communities and uncovers an existential threat to the polises themselves: bizarre astrophysical phenomena that defy known laws of nature. The narrative centers on Yatima, an orphaned digital being grown from a mind seed, who embarks on a perilous quest with a diverse group of citizens and flesher refugees. Their mission is to unravel the mystery behind these anomalies and find a solution that guarantees the survival of all post-humanity, leading them on the trail of the ancient, elusive 'Transmuters,' beings capable of reshaping subatomic particles and traversing into higher dimensions.
