Doctor Silas Coade finds himself trapped in a recurring nightmare, or perhaps a series of shifting realities, as he embarks on perilous expeditions to discover an enigmatic artifact. Whether aboard the schooner Demeter sailing toward a hidden inlet north of Bergen, navigating the icy fjords of Patagonia on a steamship, or commanding a zeppelin over uncharted territories, the mission's core remains the same: a quest for something extraordinary, and a creeping sense of dread. Each iteration sees the expedition's goal within reach, only for disaster to strike, often heralded by a mysterious wreck and an inexplicable threat. As Coade's memories and perceptions blur, he begins to suspect that his reality is far more fragile and manipulated than he can comprehend, forcing him to confront a truth that could shatter his sanity and determine the fate of his crew and perhaps, reality itself.
