Some Buried Caesar

Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin find themselves in an unexpected predicament when their automobile breaks down in rural upstate New York, stranding them amidst a peculiar private pasture. This unforeseen detour plunges them into a simmering family feud centered around Hickory Caesar Grindon, a prize-winning bull slated for an unusual destiny: to be barbecued as a publicity stunt by a flamboyant restaurateur. While tasteless, this plan isn't criminal until tragedy strikes. The next morning, the esteemed patriarch of the feuding family is discovered gored to death, with Caesar, the bull, standing prominently over the remains. Initially, the local authorities are quick to blame the bull, but Nero Wolfe, ever the skeptic of simple solutions, is convinced this is merely a smokescreen. With Archie's assistance, Wolfe must navigate a complex web of family rivalries, hidden motives, and a veritable stampede of eccentric suspects, all while contending with Archie's budding affections for one of the prime suspects.
