Synopsis

Twenty-seven years after his last tour, Paul Brenner, a retired U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) officer, finds his quiet life shattered by an unexpected summons from his former commanding officer. The mission: return to Vietnam to discreetly investigate a murder that occurred during the war, a crime seemingly buried by time and political expediency. Brenner, still haunted by his past and the war's unresolved traumas, embarks on a journey back to a country transformed yet eerily familiar. As he delves into the intricate web of the past, he uncovers not only the details of the murder but also a sprawling landscape of contemporary corruption, lingering resentments, and the profound, unhealed wounds of a conflict that, for many, never truly ended. His investigation forces him to confront ghosts both personal and national, battling against powerful forces eager to keep old secrets buried while navigating a land still grappling with its history and identity.
