Synopsis

In Christopher Buckley's uproarious political satire, "Supreme Courtship," President Donald Vanderdamp finds himself in a comedic quagmire, unable to get his Supreme Court nominees confirmed. After one candidate's critical failure to appreciate 'To Kill A Mockingbird' seals their fate, Vanderdamp devises a brilliant, albeit outrageous, plan: nominate Judge Pepper Cartwright, the straight-talking, wildly popular star of the nation's top reality show, 'Courtroom Six.' He bets the Senate won't dare reject a national sweetheart. What follows is a whirlwind of political absurdity as Pepper, a no-nonsense Texan, navigates the treacherous waters of a Senate confirmation hearing, grapples with the impact of global power on her love life, and attempts to integrate into a Supreme Court populated by highly skeptical, eccentric justices. Among them is a Chief Justice reeling from a personal revelation following his landmark gay marriage ruling. Pepper soon finds herself at the epicenter of a constitutional crisis, a presidential re-election campaign the President seems determined to lose, and unexpected romantic entanglements, all delivered with Buckley's signature wit and incisive critique of Washington's most hallowed institutions.

Critical Reception

"Buckley's 'Supreme Courtship' stands as a sharply observant and laugh-out-loud satire, lampooning the absurdities of American politics and legal systems with incisive wit and timely relevance."
