Synopsis

Hercule Poirot finds himself far from the familiar streets of London, amidst the dust and ancient ruins of an archaeological dig in Mesopotamia. Nurse Amy Leatheran, employed to care for the anxious and often hysterical Louise Leidner, wife of the renowned Swedish archaeologist Dr. Eric Leidner, recounts the unsettling events leading up to a shocking crime. Louise, a woman of captivating beauty and a magnetic personality, harbors a dark past and claims to be haunted by a former husband she believed dead. Her dramatic declarations of impending doom are dismissed as mere histrionics until she is found dead in her room, struck down by a blunt instrument. With an isolated dig site, a limited number of suspects, and a web of secrets, jealousies, and hidden histories among the small, close-knit group of scholars and assistants, Poirot faces one of his most intricate challenges. He must unearth not just ancient relics, but the human motivations and cunning behind a seemingly impossible murder, where everyone has a motive and an alibi, and appearances are certainly deceiving.
