Synopsis

In a chilling dystopian future, society dictates a woman's destiny through a mandatory lottery upon her first menstruation. A white ticket guarantees marriage and motherhood, while a blue ticket grants a career and freedom from familial burdens. Choice is eliminated, and once a ticket is drawn, there is no turning back. Calla, a recipient of a blue ticket, initially embraces her prescribed path. However, a profound shift in her desires leads her to question the system that claims to know her better than she knows herself. Defying all societal norms and risking severe consequences, Calla finds herself pregnant and on the run. Her desperate flight forces her to confront the profound implications of her rebellion, not only for herself but for the life growing within her. Mackintosh masterfully explores themes of bodily autonomy, societal control, and the impossible decisions women face when their fundamental choices are restricted.

Critical Reception

"Praised for adding new depth to the dystopian tradition, 'Blue Ticket' is a mesmerizing and thought-provoking exploration of societal control and female agency, earning comparisons to works by Orwell and Atwood."
