Synopsis

In Carl Hiaasen's outrageously funny and sharply satirical novel, "Sick Puppy," environmental vigilante Twilly Spree takes radical action against those who desecrate Florida's natural beauty. When he witnesses influential lobbyist Palmer Stoat carelessly littering, Twilly orchestrates a bizarre and hilarious act of retribution: filling Stoat's prized Range Rover with a swarm of hungry dung beetles. This initial prank escalates into a full-blown ecological war as Twilly uncovers Stoat's latest, most destructive project: the "malling" of a pristine Gulf Coast island. What follows is a wild chase across Florida, involving dognapping eco-terrorists, eccentric con artists, an infamous ex-governor gone feral, and a remarkably intelligent Labrador retriever. Hiaasen masterfully blends dark humor with a passionate plea for environmental preservation, delivering a twisted, action-packed narrative that skewers greed and celebrates the resilience of nature.
