Synopsis

Bellis Coldwine, a brilliant linguist, flees the corrupt city-state of New Crobuzon aboard a vast seafaring vessel, seeking refuge from a past linked to a renegade scientist. Her journey takes an unforeseen turn when the ship, laden with prisoners transformed into grotesque biological oddities and diverse travelers, is ambushed by pirates on the treacherous Swollen Ocean. The surviving passengers are forcibly brought to Armada, a mythical, self-contained city crafted from countless pirated ships. Ruled by the enigmatic 'Lovers', Armada is a place where humans, Remades, Cactae, and Cray coexist in a precarious equality, yet no one is permitted to leave. Trapped and embittered, Bellis must navigate this bizarre floating metropolis, feigning conformity while covertly investigating Armada's true intentions. Her desperate search for freedom and answers leads her to uncover a terrifying secret lurking beneath the waves: dark, amorphous entities with a singular, chilling mission that could alter the fate of Armada and the world beyond.
