Paul Carpenter's new job at the seemingly innocuous London firm of J. W. Wells starts like any other, but he quickly discovers this is no ordinary nine-to-five. His superiors, Humphry and Dennis, are far from the typical corporate executives, frequently disappearing on mysterious errands involving mythical creatures. Paul soon uncovers that J. W. Wells & Co. is a front for a deeply sinister organization trafficking in magical artifacts and wielding considerable supernatural power. He finds himself embroiled in a world of goblins, corporate intrigue, and ancient magic, where the stakes are far higher than a quarterly report. As he navigates this bewildering new reality, Paul must come to grips with his unwitting involvement in a fantastical struggle, all while trying to keep his job and, more importantly, his life.
