Synopsis

In Charles Todd's atmospheric 'Wings of Fire', Inspector Ian Rutledge, still grappling with the haunting voice of Hamish, the soldier he was forced to execute in the trenches of World War I, is dispatched to a remote Cornwall estate. His mission: to investigate the inexplicable deaths of three members of the distinguished Beaumont family. What begins as a routine inquiry quickly unravels into a labyrinth of secrets, madness, and deeply buried resentments. The case takes a profound personal turn when Rutledge discovers that one of the deceased, a reclusive spinster, is none other than O. A. Manning, whose poignant war poetry offered him solace amidst the horrors of the Western Front. Driven by a desperate need for answers and the relentless whisperings of his internal tormentor, Rutledge delves into a family history steeped in tragedy and psychological shadows, forcing him to confront not only a cunning killer but also the lingering specters of his own past.
