Synopsis

In 2005 New York, Chinese expatriate Feng Danlin, a fiercely principled journalist renowned for his explosive exposés, finds himself embroiled in his most personal and perilous assignment yet. Working for a small news agency catering to the Chinese diaspora, Danlin has earned both acclaim from readers and the ire of Communist officials. His latest task is to investigate his ex-wife, Yan Haili, an unscrupulous novelist who has become a willing pawn of the Chinese government to achieve literary stardom. Haili's blatant opportunism and moral compromises deeply infuriate Danlin, both professionally and personally. Driven by a powerful sense of integrity and a desire to expose her as a fraud, he embarks on a dogged quest for truth. However, in outing Haili, Danlin risks provoking her powerful political allies, demanding he employ all his journalistic cunning and courage to navigate this treacherous investigation and protect his career, and indeed, his very life. "The Boat Rocker" is a darkly humorous and incisive tale of integrity, corruption, and the enduring power of the written word in a digital age.
