Synopsis

Prince Arutha's twin sons, Borric and Erland, find their carefree youth abruptly ended when Borric is named Royal Heir. Tasked with an urgent diplomatic mission to the formidable Keshian Empire, they are to secure a fragile peace, acting as ambassadors to the powerful Queen of Kesh. However, their journey becomes a crucible of danger and intrigue. An assassination attempt before they even depart Krondor foreshadows greater peril. When their traveling party is ambushed, Borric disappears and is presumed dead, plunging Erland into a spiral of grief and forcing him to navigate the treacherous Keshian court alone, burdened by the immense responsibility. Unbeknownst to all, Borric lives, having escaped his captors. Stranded and hunted in a foreign land, he must use all his cunning and stamina to survive and find his way back to his brother. Their separate, arduous paths – one confronting political machinations, the other fighting for survival – forge them into men of duty and honor, with the fate of two empires resting on their shoulders. Every decision threatens to ignite the war their father desperately seeks to avoid.
