Synopsis

In 'Dead Water,' the tranquility of the remote Shetland Isles is shattered when the body of journalist Jerry Markham is discovered, meticulously placed in a traditional Shetland boat. Markham, a native Shetlander, had left the islands years prior under a cloud of scandal to forge a career in London, and his sudden, mysterious return culminates in his murder. Detective Inspector Willow Reeves is dispatched to lead the investigation, but it is the seasoned local knowledge of DI Jimmy Perez, still reeling from personal tragedy, that proves invaluable. As Perez is drawn back into active duty, he and Reeves begin to peel back the layers of Markham's life, uncovering a trail of secrets and unresolved resentments. Markham was pursuing a story that many Shetlanders desperately wanted to keep buried – a truth so explosive that someone was willing to kill to protect it. Amidst the close-knit community where everyone knows everyone, Perez and Reeves must navigate a labyrinth of suspicion and hidden agendas to expose a killer determined to keep the past firmly in the grave.
