Synopsis

In Dick Francis's gripping novel "Forfeit," James Tyrone, a celebrated racing journalist, finds his life irrevocably altered when his troubled wife, Elizabeth, a former champion show jumper, is found dead under suspicious circumstances. Publicly, her death is ruled a suicide, but Tyrone's intimate knowledge of her struggles and the opaque world of horse racing fuels his conviction that something far more sinister is at play. As he embarks on a perilous quest for the truth, Tyrone uncovers a dark network of illicit drug trafficking, blackmail, and murder that permeates the glamorous facade of the equestrian circuit. Battling his own grief and the skepticism of others, he must navigate betrayals and mortal threats, risking everything to expose the perpetrators and avenge his wife's death before he, too, becomes another casualty in a web of deceit where life is cheap and secrets are worth killing for.
