Synopsis

Roald Dahl's 'The Witches' introduces readers to an orphaned English boy who, after his parents' tragic death, moves to Norway to live with his beloved grandmother. She is a wise and spirited woman who shares with him the terrifying truth about witches: they are real, they despise children, and they look like ordinary women but hide monstrous features beneath their wigs and gloves. Witches, she explains, dedicate their lives to ridding the world of children. While vacationing at an English seaside hotel, the boy unwittingly stumbles upon the Annual General Meeting of England's witches, led by the utterly diabolical Grand High Witch. He overhears their sinister plot to transform all the children of England into mice using a magical potion. Though he tries to warn them, the boy is caught and subjected to the potion himself, turning him into a mouse. Undeterred by his new form, and with the help of his clever grandmother, he hatches a daring plan to defeat the witches at their own game, leading to a thrilling and darkly humorous showdown where the smallest hero proves to be the most formidable.
