Synopsis

Following his triumph at the Ankh-Morpork Post Office, the irrepressible Moist von Lipwig finds himself facing an even more formidable challenge: revitalizing the city's ancient and ailing Royal Bank, and introducing paper currency to a world accustomed to solid gold. Lord Vetinari, with his characteristic blend of charm and coercion, once again makes Moist an offer he cannot refuse, placing him at the helm of the venerable Royal Mint. Moist quickly discovers the bank is a labyrinth of eccentricities and inefficiencies: a chief cashier who might be a vampire, an elderly chairman who patrols with loaded crossbows, and unsettling secrets lurking in the cellar. As he attempts to drag the financial institution into the modern age with his signature blend of audacious schemes and sheer bluster, Moist inadvertently stirs up a hornet's nest of powerful vested interests. He learns that in Ankh-Morpork, money isn't just about numbers; it's about power, and there are many who will go to extraordinary lengths to maintain their grip on both, even if it means thwarting progress itself. This witty and insightful installment in the Discworld series explores the very nature of value, trust, and the human (and non-human) relationship with wealth.

Critical Reception

"Praised for its clever blend of sharp satire and uproarious farce, 'Making Money' stands as a brilliant testament to Terry Pratchett's unparalleled skill as a comic fantasist and social commentator."
