Synopsis

In the esoteric confines of the House of the Sacred Flame, a London-based cult dedicated to spiritualism and ritual, a profound ceremony takes a chilling turn when an initiate collapses and dies after partaking in the ceremonial wine. Chief Inspector Roderick Alleyn is summoned to investigate this most unholy crime, a poisoning by cyanide within a seemingly secluded and devout community. The High Priest and the remaining followers staunchly claim their devotion elevates them above worldly passions, but Alleyn quickly uncovers a darker reality. The victim, far from a detached mystic, had ignited flames of lust and jealousy among the adherents. As Alleyn peels back the layers of spiritual rhetoric and deceptive appearances, he finds himself navigating a complex web of human desires and hidden animosities, realizing that a very earthly evil lurks behind the enigmatic 'Sign of the Sacred Flame.'
