Synopsis

At a lively Hallowe'en party in the picturesque village of Woodleigh Common, thirteen-year-old Joyce Reynolds boasts that she once witnessed a murder. Her claim is met with skeptical amusement by the adults, who dismiss it as a bid for attention. However, the festive evening takes a sinister turn when Joyce's body is discovered, drowned in an apple-bobbing tub. The chilling question immediately arises: was her death a tragic accident, or was she silenced for knowing too much? Legendary detective Hercule Poirot, summoned by his friend and acclaimed crime novelist Ariadne Oliver, arrives to unravel the mystery. He must navigate a complex web of village gossip, hidden animosities, and long-buried secrets, scrutinizing every guest and every past incident connected to the seemingly idyllic community. Poirot’s formidable intellect is tested as he delves into the unsettling possibility of an 'evil presence' lurking beneath the surface, meticulously piecing together clues to discern whether Joyce’s death is an isolated crime or intricately linked to the forgotten murder she so confidently claimed to have witnessed.
