Synopsis

Miles Vorkosigan, fresh out of the Imperial Academy, finds himself prematurely thrust into a high-stakes command aboard a research station. This is no ordinary assignment, however; it's a covert test engineered by his father, Aral Vorkosigan, Lord Regent of Barrayar. When the station's crew mutinies and disappears with valuable technology, Miles is left behind and presumed dead. Driven by his unquenchable ambition and a desperate need to redeem himself, Miles embarks on an unsanctioned, galaxy-spanning quest to recover the stolen ship and its secrets. His journey takes him to the treacherous planet of Kyril Island, a desolate military training ground, where he uncovers a complex web of conspiracy involving former allies, renegade Barrayaran officers, and a desperate struggle for control over advanced weaponry. Miles must outwit powerful enemies, navigate political minefields, and reconcile with the ghosts of his past to prevent an interstellar war and prove his worth as a leader.
