Synopsis

When drawing master Walter Hartright encounters a mysterious woman dressed entirely in white on a moonlit road, he becomes unwittingly entangled in a complex web of deceit and dark secrets. Shortly after, he is hired to teach drawing to the beautiful heiress Laura Fairlie and her intelligent half-sister Marian Halcombe. Walter and Laura fall deeply in love, but Laura is honour-bound to marry the sinister Sir Percival Glyde. Following their marriage, Laura's life becomes a nightmare as Sir Percival and the cunning Count Fosco conspire to steal her immense fortune and, alarmingly, her very identity. With the fiercely loyal Marian by her side, Laura finds herself trapped in a terrifying plot involving wrongful imprisonment, mistaken identity, and the chilling reappearance of the enigmatic woman in white. Walter, upon his return from abroad, is compelled to uncover the truth, confront the villains, and restore Laura's rightful place, exposing the corrupt underbelly of Victorian society in this pioneering sensation novel.
